WS: Gateway to Happines...

Yikes! Another week had passed and July is over now! Welcome August!... Have you guys enjoyed your week? Well, hope you do! Before I proceed to my entry this week let me wish you all a blessed life ahead. May you have a great adventure as you travel along your journey. Always bare in mind that is like a game! Sometimes we win, sometimes we loss. But of course, being the losser is not the hindrance to pursue our goals and aspirations. It keeps telling us to fight and be the best that we can. Here is my entry for this week...

This was taken at Timoga swimming pool in our native town Iligan City, Philippines... I don't have much this weekend so I decided to look on archives what I can show up to you and this is what I feel share... Its actually taken last month during our vacation. The two little angles that you can spot in the picture is my Little Sis and Little handsome Nephew... The photo is pretty nice right? That's it! Have a great day everyone!...c",)

Travel Destination: Duka Bay Resort, Medina, Misamis Oriental, Philippines...

In the lain back town of Medina is a tranquil, pleasant place called Duka Bay Resort. Occupying a sandy shore and part of a hill, Duka is soothingly shaded by a cluster of large ancestral trees. Seven villas — spacious, elegant, and fully furnished — provide a breathtaking view of the bay and the island of Camiguin.

A freshwater stream winds its way from behind the open-air restaurant, where one can savor an abundant variety of local and foreign cuisine. Using hook and line, visitors can experience the excitement of getting fish right from the stream. And for sports buffs, there are kayaks, bancas, water bikes, and gears for scuba diving.

Only a few meters from the shore is possibly the liveliest teeming coral community in Mindanao. Populated by colorful, tropical fish, and punctuated occasionally by a streak of turtles, the reef can be observed from Duka’s glass bottom boats, which have become popular vehicles of marine education and entertainment. An underwater spring (alibuag) and caves provide excitement to divers.

Along the western side of the bay, partially submerged, is a gathering of large rocks. Ejected years ago from the fiery crater of Mt. Hibok Hibok in Camiguin Island, the boulders now sit in quiet meditation with the waves, so much like visitors of Duka Bay Resort, who have found in the place a wellspring that refreshes the body and the spirit.

Travel Destination: Sibuyan Island, Philippines...

Sibuyan is a crescent-shaped island of Romblon Province, Philippines. It has an area of 445 km². The island has two prominent peaks, Mount Guiting-Guiting with a height of 2,058 m and Mount Nailog with a height of 789 m. It has been dubbed by some local and international natural scientists as the Galapagos of Asia.

The people speak the Sibuyanon dialect of Romblomanon, a Visayan language.

Sibuyan has lived with its isolation from the rest of the world since its birth. Never in its geological history has it ever been connected with any part of the Philippine archipelago. Seismic forces pushed up a 2,000-meter peak from the earth’s crust, forming a series of smaller peaks and slopes. The peak is Mt. Guiting-guiting (literally means “the saw-toothed mountain”, in reference to its jagged ridge. And because of the steep slopes, much of its original forest remains untouched), and the rest is the island as we find it today.

Primary forests cover 140 square kilometres, which is 33% of the land area of Sibuyan. However, most of the lower altitude forest has been logged or is secondary. Mt Guiting-guiting Natural Park (equivalent to the IUCN category of National Park) was established to protect these forests, which are mainly in the centre and north of the island, and covers an area of 157 km² out of Sibuyan’s total area of 445 km². The Park is remarkable for its outstandingly scenic landscape with twin towering peaks set amidst closed canopy forests. Its forests remain largely intact, and include the entire elevational gradient from lowland dipterocarp forest (at 200 to 900 m) and mangroves, through montane forest (above 700 m) to mossy forest, heathland and montane grassland around the peaks.

WW: EDEN Nature Park, Davao City, Philippines...

A mountain resort located at 3,000 feet above sea level, Eden Nature Park is 95% human-made! It is a great model of how humans can re-create nature and rebuild a lost environment.

eden-nature-park.jpg

Discovered sometime in 1971, the resort used to be a logged-over area covered only by a blanket of wild grass. Its potential was, however, readily seen by the owners as the property provided an imposing view of Davao City and the Davao Gulf.

Not long after, terraces were carved out of the mountain slope, and thousands of pine tree seedlings were planted. As the pine trees grew it created canopies, allowing other trees and plants to grow and creating a secondary forest. Today, there are over 100,000 pine trees spread in about 80 hectares, providing a refreshing backdrop to the various attractions in Eden Nature Park.

Getting There:

* From Manila to Davao by plane either Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, Philippines Airline(PAL) it only takes 1 and half hour.

* Eden Nature Park is located in Davao City, a one-and-a-half-hour ride by plane down south from Manila. Travel time from the Davao airport to Eden Nature Park is approximately one hour. If taking off from Davao City proper, travel southwards to Toril District.

Actually, it was not in our plans since we really had some things to fixed up but my Sis insisted to off for a while since its been a quite sometime already that we haven’t been to this place. Philippine Summer Destination: Oriental Mindoro...

The inverted-J-shaped Oriental Mindoro is endowed with some of the Philippine Islands’ best naturescapes. Choose your own beach among the many that abound, from fawn beige to powdery white. Then match the experience with interesting mountain lairs, lakes, rivers, rain forests, wild animals, rare flora and fauna, and pocket communities of the existing ethnic groups. It has maintained its unspoiled environment, all within a rustic agricultural setting.

The province’s foremost asset is Puerto Galera, blessed with one of the world’s most beautiful natural harbors. Known as the Pearl of Mindoro, it is world-famous for splendid beaches, coral reefs, and exquisite dive sites for new and experienced divers alike. There are shallow coral gardens, interesting rock formations, and colorful species to watch, like crabs, shrimps, sea anemones, moray, and trumpet fishes. Photo Credit: islandboyinthecity2

Yet another Island: Malapascua Island, Cebu City, Philippines…

This is an another island you will possibly spot here in Philippines specifically in Malapascua Island in Cebu City. A quite lovely place to visit, relax and unwind with your loved-ones. I guess, Philippines is just a gifted place of amazing scenic views that you can never find in any other countries. Well, I’m just proud to present to present to you the captivating and scuba diving place of Malapascua Island.

Malapascua is a tiny island, only about 2.5 kilometers long and 1km wide, located across a shallow strait from the northernmost tip of mainland Cebu island. The island is covered by the insular barangay of Logon with eight hamlets.

As a diving destination, Malapascua was “discovered” fairly recently, only in the early 90s. The island was first known for its wide white sand beach, known as Bounty Beach; it has become known for its beautiful coral gardens and excellent dive spots nearby, including Monad Shoal, an underwater plateau where thresher sharks and manta rays can be sighted on a regular basis. To date, this is the only place in the world where divers can reliably sight thresher sharks.
